AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Of Monsters And Men

Artist:Of Monsters And Men
Song:Little Talks
Album:My Head Is An Animal

Of Monsters And Men's 2012 debut album My Head Is An Animal was a big success worldwide. The single Little Talks was an international hit and a top 20 hit in the US. Their second album did not do as well. Of Monsters And Men are from Reykjavik, Iceland. Lead singer, songwriter and guitarist Nanna Bryndis Hilmarsdottir was recording a solo project in 2009 when she decided to turn it into a band with Brynjar Leifsson on guitar, Ragnar Porhallsson on melodica and glockenspiel and Arnar Rosenkrantz Hilmarsson on drums. Of Monsters And Men won the 2010 Musiktilraunir music competition. They added Arni Guojonsson on keyboards and Kristjan Pall Kristjansson on bass. They performed at the 2010 Iceland Airwaves Festival and that's where Seattle radio station KEXP recorded Of Monsters And Men performing Little Talks. KEXP is always looking for new bands. They signed with the local label Record Records and My Head Is An Animal was released Sept. 2011. The album and the single Little Talks was very successful in Europe. When Philadelphia's Radio 104.5 started to play Little Talks, Of Monsters And Men signed a US record deal with Republic/Universal. They released the EP Into The Woods Dec. 2011. Republic combined the EP with My Head Is An Animal and released the CD Apr. 2012. Little Talks reached #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and it topped the US Alt Rock chart. And the album was certified Platinum. Guojonsson left in 2012. He hasn't been replaced but Of Monsters And Men hire musicians for touring. The 2015 album Beneath The Skin didn't do nearly as well. It seems the album had a darker tone that didn't catch on. Of Monsters And Men were featured in the Netflix series Jessica Jones. They are currently recording their next album. It remains to be seen what musical direction Of Monsters And Men will go. They could be at a crossroads. Here's the video for Little Talks by Of Monsters And Men.
