Here's the match video of Carla Esparza vs Alexa Grasso from last night's UFC show in Mexico City. These are both fighters looking to get into the Strawweight title picture. Carla is a former champ. Alexa has star potential and if she can win two fights she will probably get a title shot at next year's Mexico show. Her major weakness is she is so used to being a points fighter that she lacks aggression. And that flaw really came back to bite her in the ass last night. Round one was very close. Carla scored a couple of takedowns but didn't do much with them. Typically, Alexa didn't do enough to win the round. I scored it 10-9 for Carla. So did two of the judges and the third scored it for Alexa. I thought Carla won round two 10-9 and so did all three judges. But in round three, Alexa woke up and wobbled Carla. If she goes after her and finishes Carla, Alexa wins the fight. But she doesn't. Later in the round, Alexa gets an armbar but Carla escapes. I scored round three 10-8 for Alexa making the fight a draw at 28-28. One of the judges scored it that way but the other two scored round three 10-9 for Alexa. Carla won by majority decision. Despite the fan outrage, a 10-8 third round for Alexa still made it a draw. So Alexa needed to finish and she had a chance to finish. She just didn't go for the kill. It's a flaw in her training. Fighters need to have that killer instinct or why be a fighter. Her uncle is a former fighter so he knows this. This is another case of a fighter beating herself.
