Mairead Nesbitt is a classically trained violinist who was a featured performer with the popular group Celtic Woman from 2004-2016. She recorded a solo album before she joined the group. She was born Apr. 1979 in Loughmore, County Tipperary, Ireland. Her parents are music teachers and all her siblings are musicians. She began to play violin at age six. Among other places, Mairead studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London. While starting a career in classical music, Mairead played with Clannad and Van Morrison on the side. And this led to Michael Flatley inviting her to perform on his 1996 show Lord of the Dance. She remained with Flatley until 2001. And that's when she recorded the album Raining Up. The album is a mix of Celtic music and contemporary elements including horns. The album was produced by Manus Lunny of the Scottish folk group Capercaillie along with Colm O Foghlu. Mairead wrote the arrangements with Lunny. Several family members appeared on the album including brother Karl Nesbitt on didjeridu. After Mairead became a featured performer with Celtic Woman, the album was re-released including a 2006 US release on EMI's Manhattan label. The album made Billboard's World Music chart. After leaving Celtic Woman in 2016, Mairead released the album Hibernia Dec. 2016. She again works with producer O Foghlu and again several family members appear on the album. Since then she has been touring and she also launched her own line of signature violins along with jewelry. Mairead was the featured violin soloist in the Disney film Tinker Bell. And she recorded an album with her family as The Nesbitt Family. The Devil's Bit Sessions was released in 2017. Here's Mairead Nesbitt performing Butterfly as a featured performer with Celtic Woman.
