The Aussie duo The Black Ryder will remind you of groups like The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Their music is an atmospheric kind of neo-psychedelia commonly known as Shoegaze. Aimee Nash and Scott Von Ryper were in the band The Morning After Girls. They left in 2007, got married and released the 2009 album Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride on their own label with EMI distribution in Australia and The Orchard in the US. The album was critically acclaimed in Rolling Stone Australia who gave them a best new artist award. They write and produce the music and play all the instruments. They bring in guest musicians and also tour with bands like The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. After the album was released, The Black Ryder moved to Los Angeles and divorced. Aimee married The Cult lead singer Ian Astbury. The Door Behind The Door was released in 2015. That album was acclaimed similar to the first album and they toured to support it. Fans of Shoegaze should check them out. It looks like The Black Ryder split up. Their website and Facebook and Twitter accounts are inactive. The two have individual Twitter accounts. The only recent activity has Variety reporting that Amiee and Asbury bought a house in the Hollywood Hills. I'm sure Von Ryper will resurface as a producer. Clearly he has a lot of talent.
