AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Silver

Artist:Silver
Song:Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang
Album:Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Awesome Mix

Here's a long forgotten 70s hit that got a big boost when it was used in the 2017 film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It was the only chart single for Silver and they only recorded one album. They were from Los Angeles. Lead singer John Batdorf was in the early 70s folk rock duo Batdorf & Rodney. They recorded three albums including a 1975 album for Arista. He formed Silver with pianist Brent Mydland, bassist Tom Leadon, guitarist Greg Collier and drummer Harry Stinson. They signed with Arista and the 1976 album Silver was produced by Tom Sellers who was the guy behind The Assembled Multitude and the 1970 hit Overture From Tommy. Most of the songs were written by either Batdorf, Collier or Mydland. Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang was written veteran Nashville songwriter Rick Giles. Stinson was from Nashville and he has had a long career as a session musician. He may have found the song. Arista owner Clive Davis liked the song so much that he personally produced it. It reached #16 on the Billboard Hot 100. The record was an especially big hit in Chicago. Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang was mostly forgotten until it was used in the 2017 film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The soundtrack is available as a budget CD. After two more singles, Silver split up. Most famously, Mydland joined The Grateful Dead in 1979. Batdorf became a session singer in Los Angeles. Leadon also went on to session work. He is the brother of Bernie Leadon of Eagles. Stinson moved back to Nashville and he was a member of Steve Earle and the Dukes. Collier owns a recording studio and has released a solo album. Here's a video for Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang by Silver.
