AccuRadio Song Of The Day-*NSYNC

Artist:*NSYNC
Song:It's Gonna Be Me
Album:Greatest Hits

The 2000 single It's Gonna Be Me was the only number one hit for *NSYNC. They released three albums and had a total of six top ten hits. This was at a time when boy bands had become a music industry epidemic spawned by The Backstreet Boys. And that's how *NSYNC started. After a failed audition for The Backstreet Boys, Chris Kirkpatrick asked their manager Lou Pearlman if he was interested in a second group. Pearlman agreed and Kirkpatrick brought in his friend Joey Fatone. Pearlman suggested Justin Timberlake of The Mickey Mouse Club and Timberlake brought fellow cast member JC Chasez. The fifth member was bass singer Jason Galasso. He left during rehearsals because he didn't like the musical direction. Timberlake's vocal coach recommended Lance Bass. Pearlman hired Backstreet Boys manager Johnny Wright to manage *NSYNC and they signed with BMG Ariola in Germany. Once *NSYNC was successful in Europe, RCA signed them and had them record some new songs for the US market. The 1998 album 'N Sync wasn't doing so well until *NSYNC appeared on a Disney Channel special and album sales went through the roof. The album was certified 10XPlatinum. Their biggest hit was the theme from the film Music of My Heart recorded with Gloria Estefan. It reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. They sued Pearlman for ripping them off. It was settled out of court and *NSYNC signed with Jive Records. Bye Bye Bye was the first single from the 2000 album No Strings Attached. It reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single It's Gonna Be Me was *NSYNC's first and only number one hit. The album sold over two million copies in the first week and was certified 11XPlatinum. As with the first album, they continued to work a lot with Swedish producers like Rami Yacoub who wrote and produced It's Gonna Be Me. After the 2001 album Celebrity and the subsequent tour, *NSYNC went on hiatus. They split up for good after Timberlake left to go solo in 2004. That's when this comp was released. Of course Timberlake has a very successful solo career. The others have mostly done acting. Chasez released a solo album but has had success as a songwriter producer. Here's the video for It's Gonna Be Me by *NSYNC. The girl in the video is model Kim Smith who also appeared in the Bye Bye Bye video.
