Drummer Ernesto Cervini was born in Toronto in 1982. Currently he splits his time between Toronto and New York City. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music, the University of Toronto and the Manhattan School of Music. He started out as a sideman playing in New York clubs. He signed with Anzic Records in 2006 and has been recording for them ever since. Nonna Rosa is from the 2009 album Little Black Bird. Cervini wrote the song for his late grandmother. The featured musician is sax player Joel Frahm who is a long time associate of pianist Brad Mehldau. They attended college together. Pianist Adrian Farrugia and bassist Jon Maharaj are both from Toronto. He expanded this quartet to a sextet in 2011. They have recorded a couple of albums as Turboprop. Cervini's other bands include MEM3, Myriad3, Idioteque, Tetrahedron and most recently Tunetown. Tunetown will release a new album in September. And Cervini is on the University of Toronto faculty.
