AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Barbara Walsh

Artist:Barbara Walsh
Song:The Ladies Who Lunch
Album:Company: 2006 Broadway Cast

Barbara Walsh is a Tony nominated actress who played Joanne in the 2006 Broadway revival of the Stephen Sondheim musical Company. Barbara still performs in musicals just not on Broadway. She was born June 3, 1955 in Washington, DC and she grew up in Chevy Chase, MD. She studied drama and music at Montgomery College. She started out in regional theater before coming to New York. She made her Broadway debut in the 1982 musical Rock 'N Roll! The First 5,000 Years. This was followed by Nine on Broadway and then a national tour. Barbara appeared off-Broadway in the parody musical Forbidden Broadway. She was nominated for a Tony for playing Trina in the 1992 musical Falsettos. There is no cast album for that. She also appeared in the 1993 show Blood Brothers, the 1996 show Big and the 2002 revival of Hairspray. This 2006 revival of the Sondheim musical Company starred Raul Esparza as Bobby. Barbara played Joanne and that character was made famous in the original production by Elaine Stritch. That's a giant shadow and I'm sure it was tough for Barbara to try to live up to that. In the video of Barbara's performance of The Ladies Who Lunch, keep in mind that the character is supposed to be drunk. The original cast album is available as a digital download. Since then Barbara has performed mostly in regional theater. She also had a two year stint in the daytime soap One Life To Live and a few TV guest shots. Here's Barbara Walsh performing The Ladies Who Lunch from Company on the PBS series Great Performances.
