AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Jedd Hughes

Artist:Jedd Hughes
Song:High Lonesome
Album:Transcontinental

Of course everyone knows that Keith Urban is one of today's most popular country singers. He's from Australia. Jedd Hughes is also from Australia. After chart success with his 2004 debut album Transcontinental, Hughes never recorded a second album. Fortunately he's a good enough songwriter and guitarist that he is now an in demand session musician. And Hughes seems to prefer collaborating with others. He was born Mar. 31, 1982 in Quorn, South Australia. His father played guitar and was a big country music fan. As a teen, Hughes played all over Australia. After graduating from high school, Hughes studied bluegrass at South Plains College in Texas. One of his teachers was Terry McBride of McBride and the Ride. McBride brought Hughes to Nashville and got him a job playing guitar for Patty Loveless. This led to a record deal with MCA Records and the 2004 album Transcontinental. McBride produced the album. The singles High Lonesome and Soldier for the Lonely charted but they didn't do well enough for Hughes to keep his record deal. So Rodney Crowell hired Hughes to play guitar in his band. He's been with Crowell ever since including when Crowell recorded and toured with Emmylou Harris. Hughes is also an in demand session guitarist and songwriter. He says he may record another album someday but he really enjoys collaborating and not being the front guy. Hughes has recorded with Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, Little Big Town, Gary Allan, Allison Moorer, Ryan Bingham, Chely Wright and Sarah Jarosz. He has written songs for some of those artists along with Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Charles Kelley and the TV series Nashville. And he has written and produced the Aussie country singer Morgan Evans. So I think things have turned out well for Hughes. Here's the video for High Lonesome by Jedd Hughes.
