AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Janet Kay

Artist:Janet Kay
Song:Silly Games
Album:Hold Me Close

Janet Kay scored a top five hit in England with Silly Games in 1979. She's still around but that is her one big hit. She was born Janet Kay Bogle Jan. 17, 1958 in Willesden, London, England. She was hanging around with the British reggae group Aswad and they recommended her to Jamaican music legend Alton Ellis. He had her record a cover of the Minnie Riperton hit Lovin' You. After a couple more singles, Janet recorded Silly Games written and produced by Dennis Bovell. Bovell was born in Barbados but he moved to England and formed the group Matumbi. He was a proponent of the Lovers Rock style of reggae that mixed disco with reggae. Silly Games reached #2 on the British Singles chart and Janet appeared on Top Of The Pops. It was Janet's only big hit and it's also Bovell's most successful production. You can get Silly Games on this 3CD Sony various artists budget comp. Janet continues to record occasionally mostly in Japan. She got into acting through the Black Theater Co-operative which led to Janet appearing in the mid-80 sitcom No Problem! on Channel 4. Apparently this was the first British sitcom created by and starring blacks. As I said, Janet records for Sony Music Japan and she tours there regularly. Here's Janet Kay performing Silly Games on Top Of The Pops 1979.
