AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Charles Jenkins & Fellowship Chicago

Artist:Charles Jenkins & Fellowship Chicago
Song:Awesome
Album:The Best of Both Worlds

Long time gospel music fans should be familiar with Rev. Clay Evans, founder of Chicago's Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. For many years Evans was a popular gospel artist on Savoy Records. Evans retired in 2000 and turned the reins over to Charles Jenkins. His mix of traditional choir music and contemporary gospel has topped the Gospel charts since the 2012 album The Best of Both Worlds. Jenkins was born Dec. 14, 1975 in Chicago. After attending Moody Bible School and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, he took over as pastor of Fellowship when Evans retired in 2000. The choir continued of course but Jenkins didn't want to ride Evans' coattails. So he waited for ten years before signing with EMI Gospel which is now called Motown Gospel. The 2012 album The Best of Both Worlds was Jenkins' first album. The album and the single Awesome topped the Gospel charts. And the album reached #41 on the Billboard Hot 200 which is pretty good for a gospel album. Jenkins has released three albums. The most recent is Think About These Things in 2016. He has also released a couple of his sermons on CD. He has also worked with Israel Houghton among others as a songwriter and producer. Jenkins announced in February that he will retire from pastoring at the end of 2019 probably to concentrate on his music. It's not clear yet what he will do. It would not surprise me if he starts his own church. Here's the video for Awesome by Charles Jenkins & Fellowship Chicago.
