AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Disclosure

Artist:Disclosure f/Sam Smith
Song:Latch
Album:Settle

The British production duo Disclosure have had success mostly on the dance charts. But they scored a top ten pop hit with Latch featuring Sam Smith. Disclosure are brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence from Surrey, England. They grew up in the music business as their father played in rock bands and their mother was a session singer. They started messing around with electronic music while attending Reigate College. Rapper and producer J Dilla was a big influence. In 2010, they uploaded music to MySpace and this led to a record deal. They released a couple of singles and EPs and this led to the decision to record the 2013 album Settle. Because the Lawrence brothers prefer not to sing, they rely on guest vocalists for most of their music. Latch was the first single from Settle featuring singer Sam Smith. Smith is a big star now but Latch was released before Smith's 2014 debut CD. So I think it's fair to say that Latch helped establish Smith. It reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also topped the dance charts. Settle was certified Gold. It's Disclosure's only US pop hit to date. But they continue to be successful on the dance charts and in England. White Noise featuring AlunaGeorge was a top five hit in England. Disclosure toured to promote Settle. Then they recorded the 2015 album Caracal. Smith also appears on this album and so does The Weeknd, Gregory Porter, Lorde and Miguel. It didn't have the pop success of the first album. But it did well in the electronic and dance market and that's their main audience. Disclosure is currently on a US tour and then I expect they will record new music. Here's the video for Latch by Disclosure featuring Sam Smith.
