Guitarist Will Bernard started out as a sideman in the early 90s and first recorded as a leader in 1998. His music is funk influenced jazz fusion. After the success of that group, Bernard formed T.J. Kirk with Charlie Hunter and John Schott. Their 1997 CD If Four Was One was nominated for a Grammy. Bernard signed with Verve and released his debut CD as a leader Medicine Hat in 1998. Since then he has recorded with bands like Jai Uttal and the Pagan Love Orchestra, The Coup, Idris Muhammad, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Groundation and Stanton Moore. Blister is from his 2008 CD Blue Plate Special and was released on the jazz label Palmetto Records. Musicians on the album are John Medeski of Medeski, Martin & Wood on keyboards, Andy Hess of Gov't Mule on bass and Stanton Moore on drums. The CD is recommended to fusion fans.
