AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Secondhand Serenade

Artist:Secondhand Serenade
Song:Fall For You
Album:A Twist In My Story

Secondhand Serenade is a solo artist masquerading as a band. Or that's how he started. Fall For You was a top 30 hit in 2008 and is his biggest hit to date. John Vesely is from Menlo Park, CA. He started out playing bass in various bands and was a member of Sounds Like Life. Influenced somewhat by John Ondrasik of Five For Fighting, he decided to record solo at home and just use a band name to disguise that. The way Vesely wrote songs is he sang them for his wife first. So everyone else is hearing them second hand. The name Secondhand Serenade was born. His 2005 debut CD Awake sold 15,000 copies independently through MySpace. The album was Vesely, a guitar and multi track vocals. For his second album, he signed with Glassnote Records with Warner Music distribution. Label owner Daniel Glass is a veteran music exec. Veteran producer Butch Walker was hired to produce the 2008 CD A Twist To My Story. The idea was to turn Vesely into a pop star. He divorced his wife in 2008 so a lot of the songs reference that. Fall For You reached #21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the video got a lot of MTV play. And Vesely formed a touring band and went out on tour. His 2010 CD Hear Me Now seemed to do OK but there was no hit single. There may have been conflict over record company promotion efforts. Vesely released the EP Weightless last year. He left Glassnote and is attempting to raise funds through Pledgemusic to finance his next CD. It seems he didn't like record company politics. Secondhand Serenade is currently on tour and it looks like he will release a new CD in 2013. It should be interesting to see if his sound is different. Here's the video for Fall For You by Secondhand Serenade.
