Artist:The Temptations
Song:Beauty Is Only Skin Deep
Album:Motown Legends:Just My Imagination
Beauty Is only Skin Deep is just one of a long series of hits by the legendary Temptations. Motown producers Norman Whitfield & Eddie Holland had already written the smash Ain't To Proud To Beg so they came back with this song. Holland was a great singer in his own right. He sounded like Jackie Wilson. So he knew how to get the best out of even someone as temperamental as David Ruffin. Ruffin delivers a great lead vocal. Beauty Is Only Skin Deep topped the R & B charts for five weeks and reached #3 on the pop charts in August 1966. It originally appeared on the 1966 Greatest Hits Vol. 1 comp. There are obviously tons of Temptations comps available. This Motown Legends comp is part of a series but I think The Ultimate Collection gives a more complete picture. Check out The Temptaions performing Beauty Is only Skin Deep in 1966.
