Artist:Musiq Soulchild
Song:Lullaby
Album:Luvanmusiq
Musiq Soulchild is a very popular Philly Neo Soul artist who seems to have been revitalized by an unusual label switch. He was born Taalib Johnson Sept. 16, 1977 in Philadelphia. He was the oldest of nine children. He dropped out of high school but started performing at open mic nights in Philly clubs. He got the attention of Jerome Hipps & Michael McArthur and they took him to Kevin Liles at Def Jam Records. His 2000 debut Aijuswanaseing was very successful and Musiq wrote and produced a lot of his own songs. Musiq dropped the name Soulchild because he didn't feel he had earned the name. His next two albums were also successful. He was then involved in a trade. Kevin Liles moved to Atlantic Records so a deal was made for rapper Fabolous to go to Def Jam in exchange for Musiq Soulchild. Musiq's first CD on Atlantic Luvanmusiq has been a smash hit. He continues to write a lot of his own songs with some of the same producers he's worked with in the past. Lullaby was produced with longtime collaborator Carvin "Ransom" Haggins. He also works with guys like Raphael Saadiq & Ne-Yo. I expect more of the same from him in the future. Here's the video for Teachme by Musiq Soulchild.
