I don't know if the NASCAR success of Juan Pablo Montoya is opening the floodgates for open wheel drivers but we are starting to see some interest in very unlikely guys. Since he left Formula 1, Jacques Villeneuve and his manager Craig Pollock have been trying to get into NASCAR. That appears to have come true. Today, Villeneuve was testing a Craftsman Truck at Chicago for Bill Davis Racing. He will debut at the Sept. 22 Las Vegas race and Davis intends to run him in some Nextel Cup races this season and put him in a full time ride in 2008. The other guys to look at are Sam Hornish Jr. & Dario Franchitti. Hornish and car owner Roger Penske both say it's a good possibility that Hornish will race in Nextel Cup full time in 2008. Hornish will run some races after the IRL season ends. Franchitti's contract with Andretti Green Racing is up at the end of the IRL season. The speculation is if he goes anywhere, it will be to the American Le Mans Series. Franchitti hasn't rulled out NASCAR. And Patrick Carpentier got a lot of attention with his second place finish at the Montreal Busch Series race so he's got a good shot at a full time ride for next year.
