Yahoo LAUNCHCAST Song Of The Day-Don & Juan

Artist:Don & Juan

Song:What's Your Name

Album:The Doo Wop Box Vol. 2

What's Your Name was a top ten hit in 1962 and the only hit for the duo known as Don & Juan. It's a one hit wonder and the best way to get a song like this is on a comp like the 4CD box set The Doo Wop Box Vol. 2. Don & Juan were Claude Johnson and Roland Trone. Johnson got his start in a Long Island doo wop group called The Genies. The group had a minor hit in 1958 with Who's That Knocking written by Johnson. The Genies split up and Johnson & Trone continued to perform while working as painters in Long Island. They were discovered by agent Peter Paul and he got them a deal with Big Top Records. That company was owned by Johnny Bienstock. Other artists on the label included Del Shannon and Johnny & The Hurricanes. Johnson & Trone called themselves Don & Juan and the Johnson penned What's Your Name reached number 7 on the pop charts in 1962. It's may be one of the last doo wop songs. Don & Juan continued to record until 1967. Trone died in 1982 and Johnson reformed Don & Juan with former Genie Alexander Faison and they tour the oldies circuit. It's amazing what one hit song can achieve. The Rhino box set The Doo Wop Box Vol. 2 is recommended. There's no video footage of Don & Juan but here's a video of the song.
