Song:Lost Boy
Album:Safe Haven
Canadian singer songwriter Ruth Berhe scored a top 30 pop hit with Lost Boy in 2015. It all started with a six second clip on Vine. It remains to be seen if she can sustain a music career. She was born July 2, 1995 in Edmonton, AB. While working at a clothing store, she began to post videos on Vine. She chose Vine because it was quicker to post six second clips than trying to post longer clips on Youtube. Most of these clips were covers of popular songs. In Nov. 2014, she posted an original clip inspired by the ABC TV series Once Upon A Time. When the clip got 84,000 Likes and comments urged Ruth to turn it into a full song, Lost Boy was posted on Youtube Jan. 2015 and on iTunes. At high school, she became known as "the Vine chick". Soon after Columbia Records came calling and Ruth released the EP The Intro Nov. 2015. Lost Boy reached #14 in Canada and # 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. Ruth self produced the single. This was followed by the 2017 album Safe Haven mostly produced by Lorde's producer Joel Little. The album did OK in Canada and Ruth won a Breakthrough Artist of the Year Juno award. She also performed on Today and Good Morning America. The EP Maybe I'll Find You Again was released Mar. 2019. The single Slow Fade was produced by the British duo Oh Wonder (Anthony West, Josephine Vander Gucht) who started out posting music to Soundcloud. Janet Jackson producer Dernst "D'Mile" Emile II also produced. That single didn't chart. She has a new album coming mostly produced by D'Mile. And then she tours to promote the album. The results should tell us if her career has any legs. Who would have thought that a chart single could result from a Vine post. Here's the video for Lost Boy by Ruth B.
