French DJ Valentin "Kungs" Brunel scored a worldwide hit with this 2016 remix of This Girl by the Australian group Cookin' on 3 Burners. He was born Dec. 17, 1996 in Toulon, France. The name Kungs is Latvian for gentleman. He got into electronic music as a teen and he started posting remixes to SoundCloud and Youtube in 2014. Bootleg remixes of Bob Marley's Jammin' and Lana Del Rey's West Coast got millions of Youtube views. And this led to a record deal with Universal France's House of Barclay label. He's on Republic in the US. The single This Girl was released Feb. 2016. It reached #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and it was a worldwide dance hit. It was very successful in France and other European countries including the UK. It's a remix of a 2009 song by the Australian group Cookin' on 3 Burners. They are from Melbourne, Australia with Jake Mason on Hammond organ, Lance Ferguson on guitar and Ivan Khatchoyan on drums. This Girl is from their 2009 album Soul Messin'. The singer is Kylie Auldist of The Bamboos. Cookin' on 3 Burners are an instrumental group but they use guest singers. The main change Brunel made was he sped up the song and added horns. It looks like the record really caught on after it was used in an ad campaign for the British department store Littlewoods. Fans Shazamed it and then bought it on iTunes. The album Layers was released Nov. 2016. The album has done well in Europe. Brunel was on tour. He's released three singles over the last couple of years.
