Song:Tarzan Boy
Album:Hard To Find 45s On CD Vol. 15: 80s Essentials & Beyond
Tarzan Boy was a top 20 hit in 1985. It was the only big hit for Baltimora. The guy in the video is dancer Jimmy McShane from Derry, Northern Ireland. The story goes that he was on a European tour with singer Dee D. Jackson. And he liked Italy's dance music scene so much he decided to stay. So he moved to Milan in 1984. While working as an EMT for the Red Cross, he met producer Maurizio Bassi and they formed Baltimora. So McShane was the front man. That's who you see in the music video. But that's probably Bassi singing as he did that with other acts he produced. Bassi wrote Tarzan Boy with Naimy Hackett who is American but is married to an Italian record producer. Tarzan Boy was a worldwide hit and it reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album Living In The Background was certified Gold. You can get Tarzan Boy on this various artists comp from Eric Records. Baltimora released a second album in 1987. But when it didn't sell, Bassi ended Baltimora and went on to other projects. McShane was diagnosed with AIDS and died in 1995 at age 37. But for a brief time he was in heavy rotation on MTV. Here's the video for Tarzan Boy by Baltimora.
I still watch that video from time to time. Guilty pleasure of mine, and it is 80's music that brings back memories.
