Artist:Mannheim Steamroller
Song:Deck The Halls
Album:Christmas
Chip Davis has successfully recorded as Mannheim Steamroller since the 70s. He has been particularly successful with Christmas music. This 1984 album has sold six million copies. Davis was born Sept. 5, 1947 in Hamler, OH. He studied music at the University of Michigan. After touring with the Norman Luboff Choir, Davis got into jingle writing at the Bozell & Jacobs ad agency in Omaha. He was one of the guys behind the 1976 CW McCall hit Convoy which started as an ad campaign. He started Mannheim Steamroller in 1974 to reinvigorate the instrumental and especially the Christmas music market with electronics. When all the record companies rejected him, Davis started his own American Gramaphone label. He started his Fresh Aire series in 1975. Davis met his keyboard player Jackson Berkey while touring with Luboff. After six Fresh Aire albums, Davis released his first Christmas album in 1984 featuring Deck The Halls. That album has sold six million copies. Davis has recorded other kinds of music and even some solo albums. But the Christmas albums are a cash cow. I guess it's similar to Trans-Siberian Orchestra except Mannheim Steamroller has been around much longer. Mannheim Steamroller does an annual Christmas tour. And they continue to release albums regularly. It's a multi million dollar cottage industry. Here's the video for Deck The Halls by Mannheim Steamroller.
