Stephani "Lady Gaga" Germanotta is probably the one of the biggest pop stars today. And now she's getting into acting. Her 2008 debut single Just Dance is still her biggest hit and so is the album The Fame. Her music may be fading and she may be transitioning permanently to acting. Apparently she's working on a new album. She was born Mar. 28, 1986 in New York City. She took piano lessons as a child. As a teen she got into musical theater and she studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute. She auditioned for a lot of shows in New York without much luck. So she decided to concentrate on music. Demos she recorded with producer Rob Fusari got her a deal with Def Jam in 2006. That's when she started calling herself Lady Gaga. But she never recorded for Def Jam and she was dropped after three months. She started this act with performance artist Lady Starlight. They called themselves Lady Gaga and the Starlight Revue. It was a modern day burlesque show that helped Stephani create her stage persona. She got a record deal with Interscope through Streamline Records owner Vincent Herbert and rapper Akon and his label KonLive. Stephani wrote all the songs on her debut album The Fame. The single Just Dance was written and produced with Nadir "RedOne" Khayat. It topped the charts and The Fame sold 15M copies worldwide. Khayat and Martin Kierszenbaum produced most of the album. Interscope was going to release a deluxe edition of The Fame. Stephanie's follow up was the 2009 EP The Fame Monster. She wanted The Fame Monster to be the deluxe edition of The Fame. It's available as a twofer CD. Obviously she's been a big star ever since. She got into acting in the FX series American Horror Story. And of course she recorded an album with Tony Bennett. And then of course she starred in a remake of A Star Is Born with Bradley Cooper. For a while she was neck and neck with Taylor Swift as the biggest pop star. But Taylor has been actively recording so I think she's top dog. Stephani is currently in residency at the MGM Park Theater in Las Vegas until May 2020. She is also working on a new album for 2020 release. What she does after that may depend on how the album does. If it fails, we might see her do more acting. We'll see.
