Brett Okamoto of ESPN reported yesterday that Maycee Barber vs Gillian Robertson has been added to UFC on ESPN2 Oct. 18 at the TD Garden in Boston. I guess that means this show airs on ESPN2. Both fighters confirmed the fight on Instagram. This fight is at Flyweight. Maycee is 21 years old from Fort Collins, CO but she trains at Roufusport in Milwaukee. Her record is 7-0. She came to the UFC on Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series as a Strawweight. But when she missed weight for her first UFC fight, she moved up to Flyweight. Maycee won her Flyweight debut over JJ Aldrich with a second round TKO. But she lost round one. And she broke her hand and she had to have surgery. Gillian is 24 years old from Niagara Falls, ON but she trains with Din Thomas at American Top Team in Florida. Her record is 7-3 and 4-1 in the UFC. As we saw last week in her win over Sarah Frota, Gillian is a ground expert usually with submissions though she won that fight with a TKO. I guess both fighters can be described as prospects. As a Strawweight, Maycee had a size advantage that went away when she moved to Flyweight. Also, I didn't like her slow start in her fight with JJ. She can't do that against Gillian who is a finisher who doesn't mess around. But Gillian does make mistakes that Maycee could use to her advantage. We could see a title challenger come from this fight.
