AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Take That

Artist:Take That
Song:Back For Good
Album:Never Forget: The Ultimate Collection

The idea behind Take That was to form a British boy band modeled after New Kids on the Block. Or at least that's what Manchester based manager Nigel Martin-Smith had in mind. And Take That was successful. Back For Good was one of several British number one hits. But when Martin-Smith met 18 year old Gary Barlow who was already a veteran performer and songwriter, he decided to revolve the act around his talents. So Barlow was the lead singer and songwriter. Mark Owen and Robbie Williams were backup singers and Howard Donald and Jason Orange were dancers. Take That's first top ten hit was a 1993 cover of the 1975 Tavares classic It Only Takes A Minute. Their first number one hit was Pray in 1993. From there they picked up steam and the 1993 album Everything Changes sold three million copies in Europe. Back For Good was the second single from the 1995 album Nobody Else. Like most Take That songs, it was written and produced by Barlow. Though outside producers were occasionally brought in, Barlow didn't need them. They never made it in the US because Williams was abusing drugs and was forced to leave in June 1995. They did tour the US but after the tour, Take That split up. Obviously there was plenty of angst in their fanbase of teen girls. Barlow released two solo albums and though he had a couple of hits, it was never at the level of Take That. So he reformed them minus Williams who has a solo career in 2005. That's when this Never Forget comp was released. Williams returned to Take That in 2010 but he has since left. Jason Orange left in 2014. Though Take That is not as successful as they were in the 90s, they still do very well touring and recording in England. I guess boy bands never die. They just tour the nostalgia circuit. Here's the video for Back For Good by Take That.
