Artist:Musiq Soulchild
Song:Silky Soul
Album:Silky Soul Music: An All Star Tribute to Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly
I like to feature tribute albums because I think the album will interest fans of the artist. The problem is most of the time there is no video for tribute albums. This album is a tribute to the popular R&B group Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly produced by his son. A music video of Musiq Soulchild's cover of Silky Soul was produced. And I guess it's also a Musiq Soulchild discography orphan. Of course Frankie Beverly started Maze in the mid 70s after meeting Marvin Gaye and though Maze never crossed over to pop, they were very popular on the R&B charts for most of the 80s. Silky Soul is the title song of Maze's 1989 album Silky Soul. The song is a tribute to Gaye and so is Musiq Soulchild's video. Maze recorded for first Capitol and then Warner Bros. from 1977-93. It looks like Beverly retired at that point. He certainly didn't record. In those later days of Maze, Beverly's son Anthony Beverly played drums in Maze. And in 2009, he decided to produce a tribute album to his dad. As I said, Silky Soul was the lead single and there is a video. Others appearing on the album include Kem, Raheem DeVaughan, Mary J. Blige, Joe, Ledisi, Mint Condition, Kevon Edmonds, Avant and The Clark Sisters with Kierra Sheard and J Moss. This album is available as a digital download. It looks like a pretty good tribute album. Maze fans should check it out. Here's the video for Silky Soul by Musiq Soulchild.
