Artist:Brandon Victor Dixon
Song:Go Back Home
Album:The Scottsboro Boys
Brandon Victor Dixon is a musical theater performer who has had success since appearing in the 2005 musical The Color Purple. He was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for playing the lead role of Haywood Patterson in the 2010 musical The Scottsboro Boys. He has appeared in films and on TV. But he is concentrating on Broadway and is getting into producing shows. He was born Sept. 23, 1981 in Gaithersberg, MD which is a suburb of Washington, DC. Dixon attended the British American Drama Academy in Oxford, England. He graduated from Columbia University in 2003. After appearing in a touring company of The Lion King, Dixon landed the role of Harpo in the 2005 Broadway musical The Color Purple. He was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. He also appeared in a 2009 touring company of that show. Then he played Haywood Patterson in the 2010 off-Broadway production of The Scottsboro Boys written by the veteran songwriting team of John Kander and Fred Ebb. Dixon was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical. When the show moved to Broadway, Dixon did not appear in it. He did appear in a 2014 London production of The Scottsboro Boys. Because the show didn't last that long on Broadway, the cast album is for the off-Broadway cast. He then won a Tony Award as a producer of the 2014 musical Hedwig and the Angry Itch. Among his other shows, Dixon played Berry Gordy Jr. in the 2013 musical Motown: The Musical, he played Eubie Blake in the 2016 revival of Shuffle Along and he replaced Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr in Hamilton. On TV, Dixon had a recurring role in the STARZ TV series Power. He played Judas Iscariot in the 2018 live TV production of Jesus Christ Superstar and was nominated for a Grammy and an Emmy. He also appeared in the 2019 live TV broadcast of Rent. Dixon is back on Broadway and Tony nominated for the 2024 musical Hell's Kitchen. This is an Alicia Keys jukebox musical. He has a supporting role in the 2024 film Your Monster. He is developing shows as a producer but nothing is ready yet. I'm sure we will see more of Dixon in the future.
