Artist:Eleanor Friedberger
Song:When I Knew
Album:Personal Record
Singer songwriter Eleanor Friedberger is best known as one half of the duo The Fiery Furnaces with brother Matthew Friedberger. When The Fiery Furnaces went on hiatus in 2011, both recorded solo albums. They have reformed in recent years but have not released an album. Eleanor was born Sept. 2, 1976 in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park, IL. The Fiery Furnaces signed with the British label Rough Trade in 2002 and released a total of eight albums. Eleanor did all the singing and Matthew wrote the songs and produced the music. As siblings, The Fiery Furnaces were frequently compared to another sibling duo The White Stripes. They went on hiatus after a 2011 tour. Both have recorded solo albums. Eleanor signed with Merge Records. When I Knew is from her 2013 album Personal Record. The album was produced by Eric Broucek who also produced Eleanor's first album and plays keyboards. Eleanor wrote all the songs with British singer songwriter Wesley Stace who records as John Wesley Harding. This album is available as a digital download. For the 2016 album New View, Eleanor switched to Frenchkiss Records and she self produced that album and the 2018 album Rebound. That album was more commercial than previous albums as she was influenced by a trip to Greece and a nightclub she visited called Rebound. In 2020, The Fiery Furnaces announced that they were reuniting and would play at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago. That was cancelled due to COVIID but they did play the festival in 2021. The Fiery Furnaces signed with Jack Black's Third Man label. They have released a single but there is no album yet. They have been playing live and Eleanor has been performing live as well. But until we get new music from them, who knows what's happening. But it's like I said. They are playing live. Here's the video for When I Knew by Eleanor Friedberger.
