AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Jesse McCartney

Artist:Jesse McCartney

Song:Beautiful Soul

Album:Beautiful Soul

Jesse McCartney was in the daytime soap All My Children. Then he joined the boy band Dream Street. After they split up in 2002, McCartney signed with Disney's Hollywood label and had success with his 2004 debut album Beautiful Soul and the title song. His music was clearly aimed at the teen market. McCartney was born Apr. 9, 1987 in Ardsley, NY in Westchester County. He started performing in musicals as a child and at age ten, he went on a national tour of The King and I. From 1998-2001, McCartney played Adam Chandler Jr. on the ABC daytime soap All My Children. He was nominated for Daytime Emmys. Meanwhile, he was in the group Sugar Beats. And after they split up, he was in Dream Street. They released a 2001 album on the German Edel label. But parents of the band members sued the producers for exposing underage band members to debauchery. McCartney left Dream Street before the case went to court and signed with Disney owned Hollywood Records. So he was 17 years old when the 2004 album Beautiful Soul was released. The single Beautiful Soul reached #16 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was certified Platinum. About half the album was produced by Canadian Matthew Gerrard. He played bass for Kim Mitchell. After moving to Los Angeles, he produced Nick Carter, Hilary Duff and High School Musical. Beautiful Soul was written and produced by Andy Dodd and Adam Watts. They work with Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato. Both Gerrard and Dodd & Watts have close working relationships with Disney. This is the kind of music that Disney wants to sell on The Disney Channel. McCartney won Teen Choice and Nickolodeon Kids' Choice awards. While McCartney toured, he appeared as himself on Hannah Montana. McCartney's 2006 album Right Where You Want Me didn't do nearly as well as the first album. He again worked mostly with Dodd & Watts. Leavin' from the 2008 album Departure reached #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. But the album didn't sell. On this album, he worked with hip hop oriented producers like rapper Sean Garrett. Leavin' was was produced by Christopher "Tricky" Stewart and Terius "The-Dream" Nash. I guess McCartney wanted a more mature sound. McCartney recorded a fourth album Have It All. But there was a new president at Hollywood Records and he shelved the album. That was the end for McCartney at Hollywood. He has since self released albums and EPs, most recently in 2024. As an actor, though McCartney appears quite a bit on TV, he does lots of voice over work. And before you pooh pooh that, voice work can be very lucrative and the money McCartney makes doing voice work probably keeps him in music. Here's the video for Beautiful Soul by Jesse McCartney. He was probably 15 years old when this video was made.
