AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Prozzak

Artist:Prozzak

Song:Omobolasire

Album:Hot Show

The music of the animated duo Prozzak went over big in Canada when their 1998 debut album Hot Show was certified 3XPlatinum. It looks like Prozzak started as a gag and took on a life of its own. The guys behind Prozzak were Jay Levine and James Bryan McCollum of the popular band The Philosopher Kings. They had a physical altercation while on tour and decided to write together to smooth things over. They created a song called Europa where Levine sang in a British accent. They liked the song but they didn't think it would work with The Philosopher Kings. So they decided to create a separate entity. Sony Canada liked it so Prozzak was born. It's obviously named after the drug Prozac but spelled differently so they wouldn't get sued. It is not known why Levine chose to sing with a British accent. They created the animated characters Simon and Milo and hired artist Scott Harder to create the characters and animate them. The ideas came from Philosopher Kings members while on tour. The album Hot Show was released in 1998. Omobolasire was the first single. It reached #50 on the Canadian charts. Sucks To Be You was the biggest hit. It reached #25. The album was certified 3XPlatinum in Canada. Prozzak was nominated for four Juno. The album was released on Hollywood Records in the US but went nowhere. The 2000 album Saturday People didn't do as well. They have reunited occasionally and even played a few live shows. Here's the video for Omobolasire by Prozzak.
