AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Atlas Genius

Song:If So

Album:When It Was Now

Positive online buzz is a new way to get a record deal. That's what happened to the Australian band Atlas Genius. Unfortunately it didn't last but that's another story. Atlas Genius is from Adelaide, South Australia led by Keith Jeffery on lead vocals and guitar and his brother Michael Jeffery on drums. Darren Sell was the original keyboardist but he was later replaced by a third brother Steven Jeffery. Michael says the band name Atlas Genius came to him in a dream. They are a pop band influenced by other pop bands. Their debut single Trojans was released in May 2011. After it was played on Australian radio, Andrew Hwang of Neon Gold posted a rave review on his blog. The song was played on Sirius XM's Alt Nation channel and a homemade video was played on MTV2's 120 Minutes. This buzz grew to a point where Atlas Genius signed with Warner Bros. Trojans did well on the Alternative Rock chart. After an EP was released in 2012, Atlas Genius' debut album When It Was Now was released in Feb. 2013. If So was the first single and it reached #8 on the Alternative Rock chart. Then the worm started to turn. There was criticism that after the two hits, the album was mediocre. Atlas Genius toured to support the album. The 2015 album Inanimate Objects didn't do as well. And then Warner Bros. dropped Atlas Genius. By this time, the band was living in Los Angeles. They moved back to Australia and announced they signed with Caroline Records. They have released a couple of singles but no album as yet. Well, I guess fame is fleeting especially when the music doesn't live up to the hype. Here's the video for If So by Atlas Genius.
