AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Kent Jones

Artist:Kent Jones

Song:Don't Mind

Album:Now That's What I Call Music! 94

Rapper Kent Jones scored a top ten hit with the 2016 single Don't Mind. I hesitate to call him a one hit wonder so quickly. But he started as a producer and that is likely where his future lies. He was born Apr. 14, 1993 in Tallahassee, FL. He went to church as a child and his aunt taught him to play drums. He took piano lessons and listening to Quincy Jones got Jones into jazz. He then moved to Miami to work with the production duo Cool & Dre (Marcello Valenzano, Andre Lyon). Jones signed with their label Epidemic and worked with Fat Joe, The Game, Queen Latifah and others. Cool & Dre introduced Jones to DJ Khaled in 2015 and Khaled signed Jones to his We the Best label with Epic distribution. Don't Mind is from Jones' 2015 mixtape Tours. The idea was to release a single and it would be on Jones' debut album. Jones took the single to a DJ friend in Orlando and the song caught fire so quickly that I think it caught Jones off guard. It reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. Jones wrote and produced with Cool & Dre and DJ Khaled. The main sample is the 1994 Barry White song Practice What You Preach. The song is notable for its use of greetings in foreign languages. Jones says he was inspired by Miami's multiculturalism. It also has profanity which means Epic had to release a clean version for radio. And that's the version that is on various artists budget CDs for the NOW series. Jones still hasn't released an album. He has released a couple of mixtapes and a few singles. He says in interviews that he still plans to record an album. I believe his future is as a producer and he will concentrate on that. Here's the video for Don't Mind by Kent Jones. This video is not on YouTube because it is NSFW.
