Amy Spanger is mainly a Broadway performer. She made her first big splash playing Bianca in the 1999 revival of the Cole Porter musical Kiss Me, Kate. She was born May 21, 1971 in Newbury, MA. After graduating high school, she moved to New York and was an understudy and replacement in the musicals Sunset Boulevard and Chicago. Of course Kiss Me, Kate is a Cole Porter musical about the backstage doings at a performance of The Taming of the Shrew. It was first performed on Broadway in 1948. And it was a big enough hit to turn into a 1953 film. This 1999 production was the first Broadway revival. It won a Tony for Best Broadway Revival and Brian Stokes Mitchell won a Best Actor Tony. The original cast album is available as a budget CD. The show established Amy on Broadway and she's appeared in musicals since then. The most notable of these were The Wedding Singer and Rock of Ages. On TV, she has done mostly guest shots. Most recently she has been appearing in the off-Broadway production of the Jonathan Larson musical tick, tick...BOOM! with her husband Brian Shepherd. I'm sure they enjoy working together.
