AccuRadio Song Of The Day-The Subterraneans

Artist:The Subterraneans

Song:Taurus Woman

Album:The Rebirth of Cool Vol. 1

Fans of Acid Jazz will enjoy this 1993 one shot by The Subterraneans. After it appeared on the various artists CD The Rebirth of Cool on Island's 4th & Broadway label, there was enough interest that fans wanted to know who they are and is there more music from The Subterraneans. I can tell you who they are but they only released the one single. The main guy behind this is Max Beesley. He's an actor who appears a lot on British TV mainly in mini series like Hotel Babylon. He's also a session musician playing drums on albums by Robbie Williams and Take That. And he has toured with Incognito and The Brand New Heavies. The other main guy is session bassist Marco Nelson. He does a lot of remixes. The rapper is MC Jonzi D and the singer is Mardou Fox which is an alias for popular R&B singer Carleen Anderson. Taurus Woman was written by jazz sax player Carlos Garnett. Beesley plays the vibraphone solo. The single was released on Acid Jazz Records owned by DJ Gilles Peterson, the creator of Acid Jazz. It is on some various artists CDs. But The Rebirth of Cool was on Island's 4th & Broadway label. It's a major label so it got the song more attention. But this was the only single by The Subterraneans. BTW, The Subterraneans is a 1960 film popular with jazz fans because jazz musicians appeared in it. Max Beesley is a very busy actor so I don't know if he has time for music. Here's a video for Taurus Woman by The Subterraneans.
