AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Donna Fargo

Artist:Donna Fargo

Song:Funny Face

Album:20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best of Donna Fargo

Donna Fargo had a string of country music hits in the 70s. The 1972 single Funny Face was one of two to cross over to pop. The other was The Happiest Girl in the Whole U.S.A. She was born Yvonne Vaughn Nov. 10, 1945 in Mount Airy, NC. She sang as a child but never considered singing professionally. Instead she became a teacher at Northview High School in Covina, CA. While singing in local clubs, she met Stan Silver who became her manager and husband. Silver had produced a few single but nothing of note until he met Donna. After releasing a few singles, the success of The Happiest Girl in the Whole U.S.A. got Donna a record deal with Dot Records. That single topped the Country Singles chart and reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single Funny Face was even bigger. It topped the Country Singles chart and reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The 1972 album The Happiest Girl in the Whole U/S.A. was recorded after the two songs were hits. Donna usually wrote her own songs. She says Funny Face is her husband's nickname for her. The album was certified Gold. Donna continued to have success on the country charts. She had five #1 hits. When Dot was sold to ABC in 1976, Donna left for Warner Bros. Her Warners recordings weren't as successful. And then she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1978. When her music career faded in the 80s, Donna started a successful greeting card company. She has also written poetry books. You can get all her Dot hits on this budget comp. Here's Donna Fargo performing Funny Face on Pop Goes The Country 1974.
