AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Adele

Artist:Adele

Song:Skyfall

CD Single:Skyfall

Back in 2011, Adele was the most popular singer in the world. So it's not surprising that the James Bond producers would want her to record the theme for the next Bond film. And the song was a big hit. So it's unusual that the theme was not on the soundtrack album. It was only released as a single meaning it's a discography orphan. In 2011, Sony Pictures president of music Lia Vollack suggested to James Bond producers Eon Productions that Adele should record the theme for Skyfall. The film was a co-production of Columbia Pictures and MGM. Vollack thought Adele could bring back that "Shirley Bassey" feel. Adele visited the set and told Skyfall director Sam Mendes that her songs are personal and maybe not what they are looking for. He told her to write what she normally writes and use Carly Simon's Nobody Does it Better from The Spy Who Loved Me as an inspiration. Adele took home the script and wrote and produced the song with her usual producer Paul Epworth. She says she wrote the song in ten minutes. Skyfall reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was a hit worldwide. So why wasn't it on the Skyfall soundtrack album? The producers tried to get film composer Thomas Newman to include it. Maybe he didn't like the song. The other thing is the soundtrack album was on Sony Classical and the single was on Adele's label XL. Maybe they couldn't work out a financial deal. This was only the second time in history that the theme of a Bond film was not on the soundtrack album. The first was the 2006 film Casino Royale. The end result is Adele's theme from Skyfall is currently available as a CD single or digital download. XL has yet to release any Adele compilation CDs. I suppose the song could turn up on a James Bond compilation too. Either way, that Adele's theme for Skyfall is not on the soundtrack album is a major fail. Here's the video for Skyfall by Adele. She doesn't appear in the video either.
