Artist:Hop Along

Album:Painted Shut
Singer songwriter Frances Quinlan started out as a solo performer but preferred the energy of a band. They are called Hop Along and they have been highly acclaimed on the indie rock circuit. She was born May 7, 1986 in New Jersey and she grew up in the Philadelphia suburb of Quakertown, PA. After releasing an EP, Frances formed Hop Along, Queen Ansleis which was shortened to Hop Along. Frances' brother Mark Quinlan played drums and Tyler Long played bass. Hop Along released an EP and then the 2012 album Get Disowned. After the album got positive press, Frances asked guitarist Joe Reinhart of the band Algernon Cadwaller to produce the next album. He joined Hop Along. They signed with the indie label Saddle Creek Records for the the 2015 album Painted Shut. I know that seems like a country label. They are named after a street in Omaha. Conor Oberst's brother is one of the owners. Painted Shut was reviewed favorably and Vice and Stereogum named it to their Best of 2015 lists. Hop Along released the 2018 album Bark Your Head Off, Dog. It has also been critically acclaimed. Frances released the solo album Likewise in 2020. She wrote and produced it with Reinhart. Frances said she just wanted to record songs she normally wouldn't record with the band. Hop Along will tour in the fall likely followed by new music. Here's Hop Along performing Waitress for NPR's World Cafe at Philadelphia radio station WXPN Mar. 19, 2015.
