Big Bad Blog Video Theater-Viviane Araujo vs Montana De La Rosa

Here's the match video of Viviane Araujo vs Montana De La Rosa from last night's UFC show in Las Vegas. Viviane came in on short notice when Maryna Moroz pulled out. Viviane was supposed to fight a few weeks ago but she tested positive for COVID-19. Her grandmother died from the disease. Viviane is 33 years old from Brasilia, Brazil. She was a Strawweight champ in Pancrase. This fight is at Flyweight but I think she gives up too much size so I prefer her at Strawweight. Viviane is mainly a striker. Montana is from Texas but she and her husband train at Elevation in Denver. She was in TUF 26 for Flyweights but she started out as a Strawweight. She is three inches taller than Viviane but I didn't think that would matter much. Montana is a wrestler with sub par striking. For some reason her coaches Christian Allen and Neal Marshall decided to have Montana trade strikes with Viviane. Though Daniel Cormier really tries to sell Montana's improved striking, I thought she looked uncomfortable. She wasn't moving very much. So Viviane started scoring with jabs and especially leg kicks. Viviane won round one 10-9. She also won round two though it was closer. By this time, Montana's nose was busted up. So what did Allen tell Montana after round two? "We think it's tied." I think it was poor strategy to have a wrestler with sub par striking not wrestle. And then when that strategy wasn't working, she needed to change. But it's not her fault. Her coaches didn't tell her to change. They thought the fight was close but it really wasn't. I scored the fight 30-27 for Viviane. Two of the judges scored it the same and the third scored it 29-28 for Viviane. A big win for Viviane which she dedicated to her late grandmother. It's a fight Montana could have won but her coaches failed her. Enjoy the video!

  1. I am sorry for Viviane on her loss of her Grandmother. But she did good coming in on short notice. I feel bad for Montana. It just goes to show how important good coaching really is in fight, any fight. Thanks Frank.
