Artist:American Hi-Fi
Song:The Art of Losing
Album:The Art of Losing
American Hi-Fi was a pop punk band who will remind you of similar bands of the early 00s. They had modest success with two chart singles. They were ultimately unsuccessful for a couple of reasons which I will get to in a minute. They are still around. Stacy Jones is the drummer in the very successful band Letters to Cleo. And he was also in Veruca Salt when they split up in 1998. While he was working on Veruca Salt's lead singer Nina Gordon's debut solo album Tonight and the Rest of My Life, Jones formed American Hi-Fi with guitarist Jamie Arentzen, bassist Drew Parsons and drummer Brian Nolan. Jones was lead singer, played guitar and he wrote all the songs. They signed with Island Records and released the 2001 album American Hi-Fi produced by Bob Rock. The single Flavor of the Weak was a top five Alternative Rock hit. It appears that Island was not happy with the album sales. So for the 2003 album The Art of Losing, they worked with producer Nick Luanay in Los Angeles. Though the album and single charted, it wasn't enough and Island released them. While working on the album Hearts on Parade with producer Butch Walker, American Hi-Fi signed with Maverick Records owned by Madonna and Guy Oseary. When the album didn't sell, they were dropped again. In 2006, Jones got the call to work with Miley Cyrus. He brought Arentzen with him and Jones has been her musical director ever since. He has worked with other acts as producer and musical director. But he also continues to tour and record with Letters to Cleo and American Hi-Fi. American Hi-Fi just released an EP of covers. So I guess American Hi-Fi will continue as long as Jones wants the band to continue. Here's the video for The Art of Losing by American Hi-Fi.
