AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Mississippi Bracey

Artist:Mississippi Bracey

Song:You Scolded and Drove Me

Album:Essential Mississippi Blues

Caldwell "Mississippi" Bracey recorded a few blues sides for Okeh Records in 1930. These were not released at the time. But they have surfaced in recent years and songs like You Scolded and Drove Me have turned up on various artist CDs. Bracey was born in Mississippi in 1903. There was a blues singer named Ishmon Bracey who was better known. It is not known if they were brothers but that would not surprise me. Could they be the same guy? They don't sound alike so I don't think so. Caldwell Bracey recorded four songs including You Scolded and Drove Me for Okeh Records in 1930. At the same session in Jackson, MS, Bracey recorded a few gospel songs with his wife. None of these recordings were released at the time. But Bracey's solo recordings surfaced many years later. You Scolded and Drove Me appears on this 2CD various artists comp from the British label Not Now Music. Bracey never recorded again. Ishmon Bracey became a minister and even when he was rediscovered in the 60s, he refused to sing the blues. We don't know what happened to Caldwell Bracey but it would not surprise be if he also became a minister. The song is pretty good so I wish there was more info about Caldwell "Mississippi" Bracey. Here's a video of You Scolded and Drove Me by Mississippi Bracey.
