Song:There Was Jesus
Album:Rescue Story
Zach Williams started out as a Southern rocker. After becoming a Christian in 2012, he switched to CCM and has had success in that market with songs like There Was Jesus. He was born June 27, 1978 in Pensacola, FL but he grew up in Jonesboro, AR. He formed Zach Williams and the Reformation in 2007. The name was supposed to represent that they were going to revitalize Southern Rock. The band toured and released a couple of albums independently. Then Williams became a born again Christian. He disbanded Reformation and he joined the CCM group Brothers of Grace. They released an EP in 2014. Williams became the worship leader at Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro. He signed with Provident's Essential label in 2016. He has released two albums which have done well on the CCM charts. There Was Jesus is from Williams' 2019 album Rescue Story. Williams writes all his songs with producer Jonathan Smith who was a member of the CCM group Luna Halo and is the brother of dc Talk's Kevin Max. The third songwriter on There Was Jesus was Casey Beathard who has written hits for Kenny Chesney. When the song was finished, Williams knew he wanted to record it with Dolly Parton. And much to his surprise, she agreed to do it. They even performed it together on the 2019 CMA Awards broadcast. So it looks like Zach Williams has found his musical calling in CCM. Here's the video of There Was Jesus by Zach Williams featuring Dolly Parton.
