AccuRadio Song Of The Day-The Fabulous Originals

Artist:The Fabulous Originals
Song:It Ain't Fair, But It's Fun
Album:Midwest Funk

Here's a 1971 instrumental funk single that was unearthed and it now turns up on a couple of various artists CDs like this one from the British label Jazzman. There is very little info about The Fabulous Originals except they were from Ohio which has always been a hot spot for funk. The musicians are not identified except the leader of The Fabulous Originals was trumpeter Delbert Taylor. It Ain't Fair, But It's Fun was released on Jewel Records. And you can get it on this various artists CD from Jazzman. Taylor has had a long career in music after The Fabulous Originals. In the late 70s he was a member of Gil Scott-Heron and the Midnight Band. He was also a member of Chameleon with sax player Azar Lawrence and bassist Gerald Brown. They released a 1979 album on Elektra. He joined the popular funk group Slave in 1981 and they split up in 1983. Since then Taylor has worked a lot with various symphony orchestras and live theater in Los Angeles. He was also music director for Benson star Robert Guillaume who also starred in the Los Angeles production of the musical Phantom of the Opera. Guillaume has recorded one album. Taylor has been the head of the music department of Joel John Scholastic Academy since 2004. So Taylor has had a long music career but mostly as a writer, arranger and conductor. Here's a video for It Ain't Fair, But It's Fun by The Fabulous Originals.
