AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Gary Clark Jr.

Artist:Gary Clark Jr.
Song:Bright Lights
Album:The Bright Lights EP

Some have called guitarist Gary Clark Jr. the savior of the blues. I don't know about that but he can sure swing that ax. He has become a music festival favourite and popular session musician. If only Warner Bros. would release his album. He was born Feb. 15, 1984 in Austin, TX. He met Antone's club owner Clifford Antone as a teen and Clark played gigs at the club. He released a couple of CDs on his own label. He costarred in John Sayles' 2007 film Honeydripper. What got Clark a lot of attention was his performance at the 2010 Crossroads Music Festival with Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow and Doyle Bramhall II. Clark signed with Warner Bros. and The Bright Lights EP was released Aug. 2011 complete with a music video. Though the EP was acclaimed, the full album has yet to surface. I wish I could tell you when it was coming out but I don't know. Meanwhile, Clark's performance last week at Bonaroo was streamed on Youtube. So he's keeping busy and gaining attention. Geez, Warners. Where's his album? Here's the video for Bright Lights by Gary Clark Jr.

I was at Bonnaroo but didn't see Gary Clark Jr. Someone I did see that you might like is Caitlin Rose. Imagine if Patsy Cline was reincarnated but then chose to hang out with punk rockers and ironic hipsters during her teens/early 20s. She played a small side stage. 2. Clark's website says he performed at Bonaroo last Sunday. At this point, I'm waiting for Warners to shuffle him to Nonesuch with all the other fringe artists. Caitlin Rose is OK but I wouldn't compare her to Patsy Cline or any other country singer. She has no twang in her voice. I think Caitlin sounds like a lot of current folk pop singers like Tristan Prettyman for example. Caitlin signed recently with ATO Records so we'll see what they have planned for her. If it doesn't work out, she can write songs like her mom.
