WINDY Tomomi retires

WINDY Tomomi
WINDY Tomomi had her retirement match at today's PANCRASE show at Differ Ariake. You might think she would get an exhibition match. But her opponent, JEWELS fighter Saori Ishioka, is on a losing streak and needs a win. Of course WINDY's background is kickboxing and is one of the best strikers in women's MMA. But she is weak on the ground and that's how she usually loses. So I'm sure Ishioka worked on her ground game which isn't that good because she's a karate girl. WINDY did a pretty good job of tagging Ishioka with strikes in round one. Ishioka attempted to take her down without success. It went better for Ishioka in round two. After a takedown, Ishioka forced WINDY to submit with an armbar at 1:04 of round two. At her retirement ceremony, WINDY was given a Queen Of PANCRASE belt. It's a very nice belt as you can see in the picture. And she was given flowers followed by the ten bell salute and paper tape streamers. Megumi Fujii was in attendance and posted some pics on her Twitter (@MegaMeguCat). On the other women's match on the show, Shino VanHoost won over sakura with an armbar 2:40 of round one. I understand sakura missed weight. I would like to see Shino face someone half decent. Fans always ask me about PANCRASE's commitment to women's MMA. I think it's iffy. At least they're doing something. But they have promised to jump in at the deep end of the pool but haven't. Put WINDY in charge of the women's division.
