Song:Love Brought Me Back
Album:Love Brought Me Back
Gospel singer Helen Baylor's voice will probably remind you of Gladys Knight. She started out in R & B but is now singing for God. She was born in 1954 in Tulsa and grew up in Los Angeles. At 12 years of age, her parents sent her on stage to accompany BB King and by age 17 she was opening for Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin. She spent the next decade touring as part of the musical Hair and turned up singing with artists like Chaka Khan. But by the early 80s, Helen was having serious drug addiction problems. She turned her life around at the Crenshaw Christian Center and signed with Word Records executive Bubba Smith in 1990. Of course he produced several Shirley Caesar albums. She recorded several albums at Word including the 1996 CD Love Brought Me Back. The title track is an excellent cover of the 1978 DJ Rogers hit. The album was produced by trumpeter and Andrae Crouch producer Bill Maxwell and Crouch along with Billy Preston, Joe Sample and the McCrarys guest star. Helen had her most successful CD in 1999 on Verity with Helen Baylor...Live. She now works with veteran producer Jerry Peters at MCG Records and her most recent CD Full Circle was released in Aug. 2006. Helen Baylor is yet another gospel artist with a deep soulful voice that is worth checking out. Here's Helen Baylor performing All Of Me from her 1999 DVD Helen Baylor...Live.

ReplyDeleteFixed. I got the two guys mixed up. It's kind of funny that someone would choose to post about something like that instead of commenting on the video. Maybe you need to get a life.
