Yahoo LAUNCHCAST Song Of The Day-Gregory Isaacs

Artist:Gregory Isaacs
Song:All I Have Is Love
Album:All I Have Is Love: Anthology 1968-1995

Gregory Issacs is one of Jamaica's greatest singers. I guess the problem is he has recorded so much music that its difficult to focus on any part of his career. His music from the 70s might be a good place to start.  He was born July 15, 1951 in Kingston and worked the talent show circuit as a teen. He first recorded in 1968 but didn't have much success until he started his own African Museum label with the popular singer Errol Dunkley. Between 1973 and 1976, Isaacs recorded with virtually every producer in Jamaica. He worked with Alvin Ranglin, Sidney Crooks, Lee Perry, Pete Weston. All I Have Is Love was part of a long string of hits. It was recorded in 1976 with Sidney Crooks. Isaacs signed with Virgin Records in 1978 and had his biggest success with 1982's Night Nurse on Island's Mango label. This 2CD comp from Trojan is a good place to start for beginners. But it is estimated that Isaacs has released over 500 albums in Jamaica, England & the US for many different labels so it's impossible to make any sense of his catalog. Gregory Isaacs continues to tour the world and his latest CD Brand New Me was released on his own African Museum label in Apr. 2008. Here's Gregory Isaacs performing All I Have Is Love & Love Is Overdue in Bahia, Brazil.
