I'm sure it won't surprise anyone that the OZ Academy #1 title contender league is getting very strange. And it's only going to get stranger. The rules are silly of course but it's fun anyway. The Oct. 12 Shinjuku FACE show had some really odd results. The show began with an OZ Academy talk show with Carlos Amano and friends sitting in the ring wearing "We Love OZ" T-shirts. Ozaki is good at that kind of stuff but the others really aren't. Also, each group will have their own autograph sessions. Oz has even posted an organizational chart on their website. The opener had Sonoko Kato vs Hiren. Hiren attacked before the bell and wrapped Kato's robe around her neck resulting in a two count. Hiren follows up with the ankle lock. Kato comes back with kicks and a face wash in the corner. Hiren kicks out of a pin attempt and hits a missile dropkick. Kato misses a high kick and gets tripped up. Hiren pounds her followed by a body slam for two. Kato comes back with kicks and wins with the Crowns Gate at 5:10.
Next is Aja Kong vs Hiroyo Matsumoto. Of course Aja leads Jungle Jack 21 and is favoured to win this thing. So as her protege, you would think Matsumoto would lay down for her. But she doesn't. Aja begins by pounding her with chops. Matsumoto tries to come back with chops but Aja no sells and tramples Matsunoto at the ropes. Aja kicks her in the back and chokes her with her foot over the second rope. Aja continues her assault by tying up Matsumotoin the ropes and chopping her several times. Then a power slam and a backfist. Aja takes her outside and pounds her some more. Aja climbs to the top corner and Matsumoto tries to toss her over the top for the win. Aja prevents that but Matsumoto gets her in the Argentinian backbreaker and follows with a lariat in the corner. Aja no sells that but Matsumoto hits a missile dropkick. Aja hits a vertical brainbuster for two. Aja drags Matsumoto to the ropes but her momentum carries Aja over the top rop to the floor and Matsumoto wins at 9:14. Aja is incredulous especially when the ref raises Matsumoto's hand. You'd think Aja would give her a beating. But she gives her a hug and raises her arm in respect. Of course it was a fluke win but to quote Matsumoto on the Ibuki blog "A win is a win". It also means she has a chance to win the title shot.
Next is Mayumi Ozaki vs Takako Inoue. Takako has only one point and won't win the league. So she takes one for the Ozaki Army. They put on a bit of a show with a couple of chairs but Takako decides to lie down for the good of the team at 1:43. Isn't that evil? Next is Devil Masami & AKINO vs Carlos Amano & Tomoka Nakagawa. AKINO & Nakagawa begin with some chain wrestling. AKINO gets the edge with a test of strength and works on Nakagawa's leg. Masami & Amano tag in. Amano applies a Boston crab and Masami gets to the ropes. A test of strength and Masami kicks Amano and tags AKINO. AKINO kicks Amano but Amano comes back with a backdrop.Nakagawa tags in and hits a hip attack but AKINO comes back with kicks. But she misses and Amano hits a top rope lariat and a cross body. They go outside and AKINO bodyslams Amano and pounds her. Back inside, they trade cross body blocks. Masami tags in. They trade blows but Masami gets the upper hand. Amano mounts Masami piggyback but gets tossed off and Masami's backbreaker for a pin is broken up by Nakagawa. AKINO & Nakagawa tag in. They trade blows but AKINO get the edge but is almost upset by a backslide. The end comes when AKINO & Nakagawa bump heads and AKINO winds up on top for the win at 15:31.
Next is Manami Toyota vs Ran YuYu. Toyota tosses Ran out to the floor and hits a suicide dive. Toyota does the swinging choke. Back in the ring, Toyota hits a missile dropkick followed by the Big Boots. Toyota drapes Ran over the top rope and grabs her nose then kicks her to the floor. Matsumoto and then Aja hammer Toyota on the floor. They take turns trying to toss each other over the top rope. But Toyota hits Ran several times with a chair. AKINO comes in to break up the pin. Mika Nishio intrudes. But Aja stops her and then nails Toyota with a backfist and Ran rolls her up for the win at 8:14. Ran seemed semi-concious and may not know what happened. This loss means that Toyota doesn't have a chance to win. That may put her in a bad mood but it might also help Ozaki.
The final match is KAORU vs Chikayo Nagashima. They begin with a test of strength but Nagashima hits a German suplex for two. Ozaki and the Kato intrude. They go to the floor and Takako & Nishio beat up Kato while KAORU hammers Nagashima. Back in the ring, KAORU & Ozaki tie up Nagashima in the ropes and Takako joins in. KAORU goes for the pin but Nagashima comes back with a dropkick followed by a German suplex for two. KAORU hammers Nagashima with the desk board. KAORU goes to the top. Nagashima uses the desk board to knock her to the apron. The Ozaki Army prevents KAORU from falling to the floor. Nagashima hits the diving foot stamp but Ozaki interferes. The whole thing ends in a schmozzle with KAORU & Nagashima swinging the desk board at each and with plenty of outside interference. The match is a ten minute draw. The Block A standings have Ozaki, Aja & Matsumoto with 5 points and AKINO with 4. Block B has Ran YuYu with 6, Nagashima with 5 and KAORU with 4. I can see Ozaki pulling out all the stops to win this and it appears the other members of the Ozaki Army are willing to sacrifice themselves to help her win. It should be interesting.
