Ad Combat posted an interview with the outstanding MMA fighter Tara LaRosa today. I have posted a link to the article below. In the article, she talks about competing at next month's FILA Team Trials for Submission Grappling in California. But she also takes the time to call out Megumi Fujii. Why? Tara likes to call out any fighter who happens to be popular with fans even if it makes no sense. Of course I'm sure you all recall that after Gina Carano was on TV two years ago, Tara called out Gina incessantly. Fans asked me several times if that fight would ever happen. I always said it will never happen because of the weight difference and of course, it hasn't happened. But Tara doesn't know when to shut up.
I think Tara should be concerned about the American Fight League but I realize that she probably doesn't know anymore than we do. She could at least express disappointment in not having any fights for the AFL yet instead of making excuses. Could a fight between Tara LaRosa and Megumi Fujii happen? Again, there is a significant weight difference between the two but I don't believe Fujii is concerned about the weight difference so it's possible. But calling her out in the media without offering any ideas about how and where this might happen is not productive. If Tara really wants to fight Megumi Fujii, all she has to do is contact Josh Barnett. He isn't hard to find. Tara's challenge qualify as empty words. Is Tara LaRosa a great MMA fighter? Absolutely but she has enough history of this kind of nonsense that as good as she is in the ring, she doesn't understand how to do business properly. You don't repeatedly call out fighters in the media. So allow me to be the first to say "Tara LaRosa, shut the hell up".

I agree. Tara is a very talented fighter, but she is the Lindsay Lohan of female MMA.
ReplyDeleteI can definitely understand where you're coming from, and even though I have nothing against Tara and, in fact, like to watch her fight, something tells me you're not the first to say something along these lines about her (lol).
ReplyDeleteGreat write up in response to the article Frank. I agree, empty words indeed. I'd love to see her fight Megumi at Megumi's weight (why is it that its ok for Megumi to give up weight? because she is superiorly skilled thats why) and see her trash words turn into tap tap tap.
ReplyDeleteShe said that she wanted to grapple her at ADCC. Nothing wrong with creating a little hype, Frank.
ReplyDeleteThough it isn't really my style to call other fighters out, she isn't doing anything wrong.
How is Tara calling out another talented fighter on the internet to create hype for her career any different than your actions?
You title a blog "Tara LaRosa, will you please shut up?" and then post the link (to your website) on multiple forums. Aren't you also just trying to generate hype and controversy for your career?
You are a pot that is calling the kettle "black".
Except she's done this so frequently that no one takes her seriously. The reaction to her comments has been mostly eye rolling. And when she had the opportunity to call out Dana White when she met him a few months ago, she didn't do it. So as talented as she is as a fighter, she doesn't need to do this kind of stuff. It's old. So I'm just saying what a lot of fans, fighters and promoters are thinking. Is it a shameless promotion for my blog? Guilty as charged and that's exactly what I'm supposed to do. It's no different to what Luke Thomas does on Bloody Elbow. This post got 50 hits yesterday and has generated more mostly positive reaction than anything I've ever posted on this blog. The only conclusion I can come to is fans are sick and tired of Tara's BS. She needs to shut up.
ReplyDeleteFighters often call each other out for publicity, too. It's gotten certain people far... Plus, she just made a statement saying she wanted to fight Megumi. Not like she's particullarly ranting and raving about it.
ReplyDeleteSomething else is that it's not just a matter of calling up Josh Barnett. What promotion are they gonna fight in? Who's gonna pay them? If you were ranked the top fighter PFP in the world, pitted against another top fighter, wouldn't you want A) your fight to be televised, rather than in the middle of a backyard, and B) to be paid more than a thousand bucks?
Honestly, I don't always agree with how she choses her words, but as her friend I'm slightly offended by the title of your blog.
But everyone is entitled to their own opinion. You, me, her, the keyboard warrior. Thanks for always keeping up with current events, and I'm always interested in your opinion!!
