Yahoo LAUNCHCAST Song Of The Day-The Desires

Artist:The Desires
Song:Let It Please Be You
Album:The Doo Wop Box II

Here is yet another obscure doo wop classic from Rhino's 4CD Doo Wop Box II. The Desires were a very short lived group and Let It Please Be You was a regional hit in the northeast US. The group was led by second tenor James Whittier. Whittier was from Rochester, NY and was a member of The Jive Tones. In 1959, he moved to New York City and formed The Desires. Other members were lead singer Robert White, first tenor Charles Hurston, baritone Jerome Smith and bass Charles Powell. They signed with Bea Casalin's Hull Records and Let It Please Be You was their first single. The song was clearly influenced by the popularity at the time of the child tenor sound of Frankie Lymon. A follow up single called Rendezvous With You was released but then Bea Casalin died and that killed Hull Records and The Desires folded in 1961. Of course like a lot of doo wop groups, they reunite occasionally for oldies shows. Here's a video for Let It Please Be You by The Desires.
