Artist:Caribbean Jazz Project
Song:Wazo Dayzeel
Album:Mosaic
The Caribbean Jazz Project is a very tasty mix of jazz & Caribbean sounds. They've recorded for Concord Jazz since 1993 but it's a part time group with very busy New York based jazz musicians. Mosaic is their latest CD. The group came together at a free concert in New York's Central Park in 1993. Vibraphonist Dave Samuels is the leader. He's probably best known for his days with the fusion group Spyrogyra. Andy Narrell is a musician from New York who plays the Jamaican steel drums. That's a very unusual instrument for a jazz group and Narrell is very good. The third main member is Cuban sax player Paquito D'Rivera. He was a member of the famed Cuban jazz group Irakere and he defected to the US in 1980. He's a great musician. Other musicians include Alain Mallet on piano, Oscar Stagnaro on bass, Mark Walker on drums and Pernell Saturnino on percussion. This is the type of music that is very light in tone but the musicians have enough jazz chops for most jazz fans too. Narrell in particualar brings a lot to this group and wrote Wazo Dayzeel. I didn't find any video footage of the Caribbean Jazz Project or Dave Samuels but I did find video of Andy Narrell on the Telarc Records website performing Chakalaka. This also proves that Freevideocoding.com works for Real Player. It came out very well.
